US/Mexico Border Crossing Info

When you buy items to be taken into Mexico, please leave all tags attached and include all receipts, or a copy. This helps with the border crossing hassle. The value allowed per person varies from week to week; the usual maximum is $150; this helps the volunteers avoid paying “duties” on things taken into Mexico. Used clothing cannot be taken into Mexico.

Taking items to Ojinaga is done by volunteers spending at least eight hours of their time to drive from Alpine, cross the Border, deliver items to Casa Hogar, recross the Border, and return to Alpine. Sometimes, up to 4 volunteers must make the trip to cover the value of the items.
